1. embroidered cloth: a piece of embroidered cloth containing rows of different stitches, either as a practice piece or, originally, as a demonstration of the embroiderer's skill

2. representative selection: a selection that is intended to represent what is available in a range

3. somebody who analyzes samples: somebody who samples small quantities of something, especially to determine quality
