Definition:
 
1. mention: a spoken or written comment that either specifically mentions or calls attention to somebody or something or is intended to bring somebody or something to mind

2. process of mentioning: the process of mentioning or alluding to somebody or something
The document makes reference to three similar incidents.

3. human resources statement of character and qualifications: a statement concerning somebody's character or qualifications, usually given to a potential employer

4. North America somebody who recommends another: somebody who comments on another's character and qualifications, e.g. for a job
