reign

reign [ rayn ]


noun  (plural reigns)
Definition:
 
1. period of rule: the period of time during which somebody, especially a king or queen, rules a nation

2. control or influence: the fact of being the dominant or controlling power or factor in something, or the period of time during which this dominance persists



intransitive verb  (past and past participle reigned, present participle reign·ing, 3rd person present singular reigns)
Definition:
 
1. rule nation: to exercise sovereign power or a controlling influence over something, especially to rule a country as its king or queen

2. be titular sovereign: to hold a royal title and be head of state while possessing only limited powers, as in a constitutional monarchy

3. be most important feature: to be the main or most noticeable feature of a situation, place, or period of time
