recur

re·cur [ ri kúr ] (past and past participle re·curred, present participle re·cur·ring, 3rd person present singular re·curs)

intransitive verb
Definition:

1. occur again: to happen or appear once again or repeatedly

2. be repeated indefinitely: to occur as an infinitely repeated digit or series of digits at the end of a decimal fraction

3. return: to return to a subject in speech, writing, or thought ( literary )

[Early 16th century. < Latin recurrere "run back" < currere "run"]

Word Usage

As the idea of again is an integral part of the meaning of recur, it is unnecessary to say things like "The disease recurred again." Simply say "recurred."
