1. obtain as result: to obtain something, especially as a consequence of previous effort or action

2. gather crop: to cut and gather a crop, especially a grain crop, from the land where it is growing

[ Old English rīpan. Origin uncertain: perhaps ultimately from an Indo-European word meaning "to tear"]
