As You Like It, a play (1599?) by English dramatist William Shakespeare. Based on Thomas Lodge's romance Rosalynde (1590), it is one of Shakespeare's most charming romantic comedies. Its complex plot revolves around Rosalind, daughter of Duke Ferdinand, and her love for a young knight, Orlando, which results in her being banished to the forest, where she is eventually reunited with her lover. The observation "All the world's a stage" comes from this play.
