Definition:
 
1. transitive and intransitive verb move smoothly: to move, or make something move, in an uninterrupted glide across a smooth surface, remaining in continuous contact with it but experiencing little friction or unable to get a grip on it
The car slid for 50 yards when the brakes locked.

2. transitive and intransitive verb move unobtrusively: to move unobtrusively, or move something unobtrusively
He slid the letter into his pocket.

3. intransitive verb slip: to lose your grip or secure footing on a surface
It seemed to slide right off the window ledge.

4. intransitive verb to change to different condition: to change to a different, usually worse, state or condition
unable to stop the economy from sliding into recession

5. intransitive verb decrease: to decrease in value or quantity
Stock prices are sliding for the third straight day.

6. intransitive verb music play glide between notes: to make a gliding change from one note to another

7. transitive and intransitive verb baseball approach base horizontally: in baseball or softball, to approach a base while skidding feet first, low to the ground
