Definition:

wasting disorder caused by syphilis: a disorder of the nervous system characteristic of late-stage syphilis and marked by degeneration of nerve fibers, wasting, pain, and inability to move the leg muscles. Tabes dorsalis is now rare because syphilis can be effectively treated at a much earlier stage.
