non·re·stric·tive clause (plural non·re·stric·tive claus·es)

noun
Definition:

parenthetical relative clause: a relative clause that gives additional information about a noun or pronoun in the main clause but that is not essential to the understanding of the main clause. A nonrestrictive clause is usually separated from the rest of the sentence by commas, e.g. "My partner, who is an artist, comes from Chicago."
