1. dried black plant root: the dried black root of a perennial plant or an extract made from it. Use: laxative, confectionery, brewing.

2. kind of candy: a dense rubbery candy that is usually made in black or red strips and flavored with licorice

3. plant with sweet root: a perennial plant with spiked blue feathery leaves and a root with a sweet flavor. Native to: Mediterranean.  Latin name Glycyrrhiza glabra.
