Definition:
 
1. doing something toward goal: the process of doing something in order to achieve a purpose

2. something done: something that somebody or something does

3. movement: the way somebody or something moves or works, or the movement itself
the action of a piston

4. verve: energetic activity
a woman of action

5. law legal proceedings: legal proceedings in a court to obtain compensation for something or to enforce a right
decided not to take action

6. events: the important events in a narrative composition such as a novel or film

7. function or influence: the way in which something functions, or the effect it produces
