noun  (plural front·lines)
Definition:
 
1. military forward line: the forward line of a battle, position, or formation

2. advanced position: the most advanced, important, or conspicuous position in any situation
on the front lines of the battle for equality

3. basketball 
Same as  frontcourt (sense 2)




adjective 
Definition:
 
1. at limits of attainment: that is the most advanced or important of its kind
frontline research

2. bordering trouble spot: relating to countries that border another country in which an armed conflict is taking place

3. U.S. regular: belonging among or relating to regular members of a team
