The Master Builder, a play (1845) by Norwegian dramatist Henrik Ibsen. Typical of Ibsen's more symbolic later works, it is the story of a successful architect, Halvard Solness, who is disturbed by his continued good fortune and fearful that he will eventually have to pay a price for it. His search for redemption eventually leads to his own death.
