free fall

free fall (plural free falls) or free-fall (plural free-falls)

Definition:
 
1. rapid decline: a sudden sharp uncontrollable drop in something such as value, popularity, or credibility
The value of the currency has gone into free fall.

2. descent with unopened parachute: a descent through the air with an unopened parachute as the first part of a parachute jump

3. physics unrestricted movement in Earth's gravitational field: an ideal state in which the only force to which something is subjected is the Earth's gravitational attraction. As an example, a craft in space is subject only to a diminished gravitational force and is not restricted by buoyancy or air resistance.
