1. screen image width-height ratio: in television and the movies, the ratio of the width of the picture on the screen to its height. This ratio was 4:3 until the 1950s, when it increased in the movies to 1.85:1 in the United States and 5:3 in Europe.

2. ratio of wing length to breadth: the ratio of the length of an aircraft's wing to the mean distance between the front and back edge of the wing. Aircraft operating at low speeds, e.g. gliders, need a high aspect ratio and have long narrow wings while for supersonic flight a low aspect ratio is created by swinging the wings back.
