Nun·a·vut [ nnə vt ] territory created in northern Canada in 1999, replacing the central and eastern part of the Northwest Territories. It is a homeland for the Inuit people (the name means "our land" in Inuit). Capital: Iqaluit. Population: 31,400 (2008 estimate).
