New Zealand

New Zea·land [ noo zlənd ] country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, southeast of Australia, comprising two large islands, the North Island and the South Island, and numerous smaller islands. Its Maori name is Aotearoa, meaning "Land of the Long White Cloud." It became an independent member of the British Commonwealth in 1931.
