Mos·tar [ móss tr ] city in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the Neretva River. It was the scene of intense fighting during the Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian War (1991-1995), when a bridge was destroyed between the Bosnian Croats and Muslims living on either side of the river. It is situated about 80 km (50 mi) southwest of Sarajevo. Population: 105,448 (2003 estimate).
