1. small volcanic island in southwestern Indonesia, in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra.
Area: 15 sq km (5.8 sq mi)
2. volcano on the island of Krakatau, whose eruption in 1883 destroyed most of the island and caused tens of thousands of deaths.
