Hebrew patriarch: in the Bible, the second son of Isaac and Rebekah, and the grandson of Abraham. He tricked his older brother, Esau, out of his father's blessing, and had a vision of ascent into heaven that came to be called "Jacob's ladder" (Genesis 25-35).
