noun  (plural ghosts)
Definition:
 
1. supposed spirit remaining after death: the supposed spirit of somebody who has died, believed to appear as a shadowy form or to cause sounds, the movement of objects, or a frightening atmosphere in a place

2. trace: a faint, weak, or greatly reduced appearance, trace, or possibility of something
the ghost of a smile

3. secondary image: a faint duplicate image of something seen on a screen or photograph or through a telescope, and caused by the reception of a double signal or by a mechanical defect

4. nonexistent person or thing: an entity that seems to exist but does not, e.g. a name entered on a list by mistake or a fictitious employee on a company payroll
