1. polite and cultured man: a cultured man who behaves with courtesy and thoughtfulness

2. man: used as a polite term to refer to a man, regardless of his social position or behavior

3. upper-class man: a man from a high social class, especially a man with an independent income

4. history man with coat of arms: in English history, a man who was not strictly of noble birth but was entitled to a coat of arms. He ranked above a yeoman in the social order.
