gen·tian [ jénshən ] (plural gen·tians)

Definition:
 
1. showy flowering plant: a plant belonging to a large family of annual or perennial species, several of which are cultivated as ornamental alpines. Flowers: typically bright blue or violet, trumpet-shaped. Native to: northern temperate regions and extending south to the Andes.  Family Gentianaceae.

2. medicinal root: the dried roots and rhizome of a European plant. Use: digestive stimulant in herbal medicine.

3. plant producing digestive aid: the plant that produces the digestive stimulant gentian
