Ga·za Strip [ gzə stríp ] region on the eastern Mediterranean coast bordered on the south by Egypt and on the east and north by Israel. Administered by Egypt from 1949 and Israel from 1967, it became an autonomous zone under the control of the Palestinian National Authority in 1994. The city of Gaza is the region's administrative center. Population: 1,551,859 (2009 estimate).
