Gaul [ gawl ] (plural Gauls)
1. ancient France: an ancient region of western Europe that included large portions of France, Belgium, and neighboring parts of Italy, the Netherlands, and Germany. It was invaded and conquered by the Romans before 100 bc and again in the Gallic Wars of 58-51 bc under Julius Caesar.
