Definition:
 
1. barrier across gap: a movable barrier, usually on hinges, that closes a gap in a fence or wall

2. opening in wall: an opening in a wall or fence

3. opening in defensive structure: an opening in a castle or city wall or other defensive structure

4. point of access: a means of access or entrance

5. arrival or departure point: the area at an airport or a railroad or bus station where passengers arrive and depart

6. barrier at tollbooth: a movable barrier restricting access, e.g. at a tollbooth

7.  ( informal )

8. barrier for fluid: a sliding barrier, valve, or other mechanism for regulating the passage of a fluid

9. spectators: the total number of people who pay for admission to an entertainment or sports event
