1. capital city of Bío-Bío Region, central Chile, situated on the Bío-Bío River, 418 km (260 mi) southwest of Santiago.

2. capital city of Concepción Department, central Paraguay, situated on the Paraguay River. It is the commercial centre of northern Paraguay and serves as a free port for southwestern Brazil.
