Can·ber·ra [ kánbərə, kán bèrrə ]capital city of Australia, located in the Australian Capital Territory in southeastern Australia. Construction of this new capital began in 1913 and the national parliament moved here from its temporary seat in Melbourne in 1927. Population: 373,000 (2003 estimate).
