Definition:
 
1. rule against somebody's argument: to rule authoritatively that somebody's argument is unsound, especially in the case of a judge disallowing an attorney's objection

2. decide against somebody: to decide against somebody, or overturn a decision made by somebody with lesser authority

3. exercise control over somebody: to exercise dominion or control over somebody or something ( literary )
