Definition:
 
1. transitive and intransitive verb be against something: to disapprove of something and wish to, or take action to, stop it
They would not state openly that they oppose violence.

2. transitive verb compete with opponents: to be in competition, conflict, or battle with another person, team, or fighting force

3. transitive verb set something in contrast to something: to set something up as a contrast to something else

4. transitive verb put something opposite something: to put one thing in a position directly facing another
