norm

norm [ nawrm ] (plural norms)

Definition:
 
1. standard pattern of behavior: a standard pattern of behavior that is considered normal in a society

2. usual situation: the customary situation or circumstances

3. achievement level: a required level of achievement

4. psychology expected range of functioning: the range of functioning that can be expected of members of a population such as babies of nine months or ten-year-old children. Psychologists use it to determine whether people functioning outside the expected range may need specialist help or support.

5. mathematics real-valued function: the magnitude of a vector expressed as the square root of the sum of the squares of the absolute values of the components of the vector
