These two adjectives are interchangeable in the sense of "relating to or typical of myth" but mythical and its variant mythic are preferred in the senses "imaginary" (the mythical [or mythic] quest for the Holy Grail) and "legendary" (the orator's mythic [or mythical] ability to excite audiences; a mythic [or mythical] figure in global politics).
