1. unknown: about whom or which little is known, but who or which excites considerable curiosity
a mysterious woman in a red coat

2. strange: difficult to understand or explain
the mysterious disappearance of the ship's crew

3. full of mystery: full of or suggesting mystery
The caves were dark and mysterious.

4. secretive: deliberately arousing curiosity by refusing to reveal something
