bird that imitates others' calls: a bird of the thrasher family, some of which incorporate the songs and calls of other birds into their own songs. Native to: North America.  Family Mimidae.


Cultural Note

To Kill a Mockingbird, a novel (1960) by Harper Lee. Set in the southern United States, it tells the story of a white lawyer who agrees to defend an African American man wrongly accused of the rape of a white girl. The events are narrated from the point of view of the lawyer's six-year-old daughter, Scout. It was made into a movie by Robert Mulligan in 1962.
