1. mineworker: somebody who works in a mine digging for minerals, especially coal

2. mineral-extracting machine: a machine that extracts minerals, especially coal, from the ground

3. somebody laying explosive mines: somebody whose job is to lay explosive mines underground or underwater

Spelling Note

miner or minor? Do not confuse the spelling of miner and minor, which sound similar. A miner works in a mine; a minor is somebody below the legal age of adulthood. The word minor has various other meanings and uses, principally as an adjective referring to something small or insignificant (as in minor changes, a minor problem) or describing a type of musical scale, key, or interval.
