Cultural Note

Far from the Madding Crowd, a novel (1874) by British writer Thomas Hardy. The first of Thomas Hardy's Wessex novels, it is the story of a capricious, forceful young woman, Bathsheba Everdene, and the three men who want to marry her. It was made into a movie by John Schlesinger in 1967.
