1. device with rungs to climb on: a portable piece of equipment with rungs attached to sides made of metal, wood, or rope, used for climbing up or down

2. path to advancement: a series of hierarchical levels on which somebody moves up or down within an organization or society

3. list of ranked players: a list of contestants in an ongoing sports or games competition, arranged according to ability
