verb  (past and past participle knocked, present participle knock·ing, 3rd person present singular knocks)
Definition:
 
1. intransitive verb hit repeatedly: to strike loudly against something such as a door with the knuckles or an object in order to attract attention
Someone's knocking at the door.

2. intransitive verb make loud noise by colliding: to produce a loud and usually repetitive noise by hitting something
was disturbed by a branch knocking against the window all night

3. transitive verb deal somebody or something blow: to strike somebody or something with a hard blow
knocked in a nail

4. transitive verb affect somebody or something with blow: to cause something or somebody to be in a particular state with a blow
