Definition:
 
1. similar to somebody or something: close to somebody or something else because of similar qualities or interests
the kindred relationship between neuroscience and neurology

2. of same family: related to somebody by blood ( formal )
the search for someone kindred to him

Definition:
 
1. affinity: closeness to somebody that is based on something other than a blood relationship, e.g. on similarity of character or interests
a sense of kindred between the two candidates

2. family relationship: relationship by blood or, less strictly, by marriage
occasions that reinforce the ties of kindred

3. somebody's family: somebody's relatives as a group ( takes a plural verb )
