The Killing Fields, a movie (1984) by British director Roland Joffe. Through the true story of U.S. journalist Sydney Schanberg's attempts to trace the Cambodian aide he was forced to leave behind after the fall of Phnom Penh in 1975, Joffe portrays the atrocities perpetrated on the Cambodian people by the Khmer Rouge regime between 1975 and 1978. References such as "the killing fields of Bosnia" clearly take their linguistic cues from this movie title.
