1. part of Roman Catholic Mass: the part of the Roman Catholic Mass consisting of psalm verses and the Gloria Patri, said or sung when the priest first approaches the altar

2. part of Anglican service: a psalm or hymn sung as the minister enters the church at the beginning of the Anglican service of Communion
