Definition:
 
1. transitive and intransitive verb affect or please somebody greatly: to have a strong, usually favorable effect on the mind or feelings of somebody ( often passive )
We were very impressed by the way we were treated.

2. transitive verb make something clearly understood: to make sure that somebody has a clear and lasting understanding, memory, or mental image of something
She impressed on every child the fact that she expected them to tell the truth.

3. transitive verb press shape into something: to make a pattern, design, or mark on something by pressing or stamping
