hold·o·ver [ hṓld vər ] (plural hold·o·vers)

Definition:
 
1. retained employee: somebody who remains in a job or other position that has come under the control of a different organization
keeping the personnel files of holdover employees

2. remainder: somebody or something held over from a previous period or time

3. education repeating student: a student who repeats a course or grade

4. performing arts somebody or something given extended run: a performer's engagement or a set of performances of a production that is allowed to continue beyond the term originally agreed
