1. fiber obtained from tropical plant: a reddish fiber obtained from the leaves of a tropical American plant. Use: rope, twine, coarse fabric.

2. Mexican plant: a plant that has large thick fibrous leaves shaped like swords that yield henequen. Native to: tropical America, chiefly the Yucatán peninsula of Mexico.  Latin name Agave fourcroydes.
