noun  (plural heights)
Definition:
 
1. length upward: the distance between the lowest and highest point of somebody or something
a steep cliff about 200 feet in height

2. distance above point: the distance that somebody or something is above the ground, sea, or another reference point

3. noticeable tallness: the condition of being noticeably high or tall compared to others
His height makes him stand out in a crowd.

4. highest point: the top or highest point of something
When you reach the height, you'll get a wonderful view.

5. high position: a high place or position, especially one where somebody can see a view or how high up he or she is ( often used in the plural )

6. most important or active level: the level of greatest intensity, activity, importance, or success

Cultural Note

Wuthering Heights, a novel (1847) by British writer Emily Brontë. Brontë's only novel, it is the story of a foundling, Heathcliff, whose mistreatment at the hands of his adoptive family leads him to seek revenge later in life. The novel is noted for its evocative descriptions of the Yorkshire moors, its complex morality, and its intensity of feeling.
