grill or grille? Do not confuse the spelling of grill and grille, which sound similar. Grill, the more frequent of the two words, is a verb meaning "broil," "interrogate," "subject to great heat," or "mark with a gridiron pattern," or a noun denoting broiled food or a gridiron pattern. Grille is only used as a noun, denoting a lattice of bars or a metal grating, as in a radiator grille, and an opening in a court tennis court. Although the spelling grill is sometimes used in the place of grille, the reverse should never be the case.
