goal

goal [ gōl ] (plural goals)

Definition:
 
1. target area: in a game such as soccer or hockey, the space or opening into which a ball or puck must go to score points, usually a pair of posts with a crossbar and often a net
The kick landed just to the left of the goal.

2. aim: something that somebody wants to achieve
One of my goals for this year is to learn Spanish.

3. score: the score gained by getting the ball or puck into the goal
leading by three goals to two

4. successful shot: a successful attempt at hitting, kicking, or throwing a ball or hitting a puck into a goal
one of the greatest goals of all time

5. race's end: the end of a race
