glot·tis [ glóttiss ] (plural glot·tis·es or glot·ti·des [ glótti dz ])

Definition:
 
1. opening between vocal cords: the long opening between the vocal cords at the upper part of a vertebrate's windpipe larynx. The glottis is open during breathing but is closed by the epiglottis during swallowing.

2. voice box: all of the anatomy of the larynx that is involved in producing the voice in a human or vertebrate animal
