noun  (plural gaffs)
Definition:
 
1. hooked fish pole: a pole with a large hook on the end that is used to hold and land a large fish

2. pole at top of sail: a pole attached to a mast and used to support the upper edge of a fore-and-aft sail

3. hook for somebody maintaining overhead line: a climbing hook used by somebody erecting or repairing a telephone or power line

4. metal spur on fighting cock: a metal spur that is fixed to the leg of a fighting cock

5. gimmick used in hoax: a gimmick or trick, often used in a hoax or attempt at fraud
