Definition:
 
1. outline of foot: a mark made by the foot of a person or animal or a shoe, especially an indentation on something soft like snow or a dirty mark on a floor
footprints in the ground below the window

2. area of surface: an area of a surface, especially the amount of space a piece of computer hardware occupies on a desk, or a spacecraft's target landing area on the Moon or a planet

3. area where something is effective: the area over which something occurs or is effective, e.g. the area where a signal from a communications satellite can be received

4. troop presence in area: the presence, quantity, type, and defined mission of armed troops deployed to a region, nation, or area, e.g. for combat or peacekeeping duties
The administration has not yet decided the size of the U.S. Army's footprint in that region.
